The first part of this paper discussed the role of philosophy in human evolution, and the pivotal role ethics plays in Indian philosophies. The paper also discussed the common vedic origin of the six great Indian philosophies. Philosophy essentially being an exploration into the ultimate truth of life and existence, leads one to greater understanding of the fundamental nature of life. This understanding, in turn, gives one a certain purpose, intent and orientation on the evolutionary path and becomes a better version of oneself, in this life, here and now. A purposeful evolution-oriented life steadies and purifies one’s mind and its activities. A self-disciplined, purposeful and conscious orientation in life gives rise to ethical behaviour towards everything external and internal to oneselfKeywords

Philosophy being an exploration into the ultimate truth of human life and existence, it can lead to greater understanding of the fundamental nature of our own existence. This understanding, in turn, gives one a certain purpose, intent and orientation on the evolutionary path and becomes a better version of oneself, in this life. A purposeful evolution oriented life steadies and purifies one’s mind and its activities, and a self-disciplined, purposeful and conscious life leads to ethical behaviour towards everything external and internal. Expansion of “consciousness” is critical in the evolution of humans. Ethics is supremely important in leading a ‘correctly balanced’ and ‘conscious’ life for advancing further on human evolution. Keywords

Giving a brief overview of the science of Yoga, this article sets the context and gives a deeper purpose for the practice of Yoga. Though Yoga is widely popular the world over today, its practice is largely limited only to achieving physical and mental health benefi ts. That is great in itself. The fact is that Yoga is, however, underutilized, much like employing Einstein to prepare a cup of tea. Understanding the context and power of Yoga in its entirety will unleash its full potential to push humanity to its next evolutionary level. This paper gives a snapshot overview of the necessary background information required to understand Ashtanga Yoga in its entirety. Keywords
